PETALING JAYA: The current unity government is able to achieve political stability as its leaders entered the federal administration with effective plans and strategies, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In a swipe against the opposition, Anwar said instead of following the former’s direction of making nasty remarks, the government preferred to focus on its duty to the country and its people.
“They keep saying we are cruel but we’ve brought hundreds of billions of ringgit in investment to ensure our youth will have jobs, we stopped hardcore poverty, we’ve repaired thousands of schools’ toilets, we’ve increased the allocation for TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training).
“We don’t simply talk about Malay and Islam like they do. Fruitless. We came in with plans, with strategies. Those youth from TVET will be making RM3,000 to RM5,000 monthly.
“Now in Kuala Lumpur, instead of spending money for mega projects and twin towers, we are spending on small restaurants and warungs because that’s where the public go to, not five-star restaurants.
“We have devised our plans from the start and we continue with the programmes. This is why I can confidently say that our politics is stable,” he said during a ceramah for the Kemaman by-election on Wednesday (Nov 29) which was also aired live on Pakatan Harapan Facebook page.
Due to the political stability, the Prime Minister said this had allowed him to voice a strong stance of Malaysians during the recent 2023 APEC Summit in the United States regarding the suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza.
He said a continued political stability in the country would allow Malaysia to take a stronger stand at the international platform on various other matters aside from resolving local issues.
“That is why I had the courage to voice the opinion of the Malaysian people in front of the US President Joe Biden.
“When our politics is stable, we can defend anyone we want, like the Palestinians, in front of the entire world.
“If we just steal money, we won’t go anywhere. How could they (the opposition) said we are weak in the midst of DAP?
“We have been approving allocations of Islamic-related initiatives and not once has DAP disagreed.
“I ask the people of Kemaman to send a strong signal in this election. Tell them what’s important is our morals.
“There’s no point wearing ‘jubah’ and ‘serban’ if all you do is curse and insult other people,” he added.
The Kemaman parliamentary seat by-election would see a straight fight between Barisan Nasional’s Gen (R) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor and Terengganu menteri besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who was picked to represent PAS.
The by-election was called following the decision of the Terengganu Election Court on Sept 26 to annul the victory of PAS candidate Che Alias Hamid in the 15th general election.
Kemaman voters will go to the polls this Saturday, Dec 2.
